Tape head polarity

How do you determine the correct polarity on a tape head? Most of the heads I have seen (cassette and two-track reel) have no marking at all...

I assume there actually is a standard polarity?

The head I have problems with currently, is the playback head on the Tanashin Denki TN-50 cassette deck :grin:
