Tape Machine Lubrication

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice about lubricating tape machine transports. Often the manual will mention a type of oil to use, but because of the age of the machine this is no longer available!

For an example, I need to lubricate a Studer C37 transport. The manual mentions "Teresso 43" as the best lubricant for the capstan and spooling motors, but it seems to be a bit elusive!

Can anyone recommend a suitable alternative, and any information on general tape transport lubrication- any pitfalls or handy tips?

my old Otari 2 track manual recommends sewing machine oil (for the capstan bearings I think) if that's any help. :roll:

My MCI JH-10 had sealed cartridge bearings in the capstan and reel motors...no lube required. I just replaced them after a while....

I have a little bottle of oil that Studer supplied when we purchased an A820 24 track, and it looks like a light machine oil about the same as sewing machine oil.
