Tascam Portastudio 424 mk2 loose spring

Hi all,

I'm working on a Tascam Portastudio 424 Mk2. It was brought to me with a fast warble on playback. When I opened it up I found a loose spring banging around the chassis. It is not obvious where it came from. Do you know where it goes? A picture is attached.

I think this probably isn't what's causing the problem, but I still need to put it back.

Upon further thought I think it is from the tape door which this unit no longer has

Any thoughts on the warble? My thoughts are pinch roller, belt, or motor, but am unsure how to narrow it down.

First check the belt,  it has usually stretched with age.
