Hey Guys

i do have 12 telefunken v72 preamps and recently found an original small frame for a v-series desk. i also have a enough eab w66a faders and frames to get going.
im wondering if any of you has an idea of how the summing was done on the kind of desks originally. anyone have an idea where to start searching for this type of information? cheers

Summing past W66.

1. Directly:

a) Resistor summing into V72a
b)  Resistor summing into V72
c) Six mono inputs into V530
d) Four mono inputs into V75
e) Resistor summing into each input of V75

2. Each W66 buffered by V74a then resistor summing into V75.

All summing by resistors is voltage type - i.e. limited numbers of channels. Resistors usually are low values.
Info is from "Handbuch der Tonstudiotechnik" by Michael Dickreiter.

Here's a bit of old V series porn:

Hope this helps,

Most amazing looking console I have ever seen!

I don't suppose there was ever an English translation of that book?

Which year is the one you have> I would like to buy one. Sounds like the most pleasant way imaginable of learning German.

Cheers

Ian,

It's a 2nd edition from 1978, single book. ISBN 3-7940-7065-8
I also have 5th edition consisting of two books, but most of the information on tube units is gone from them..

I first bought 5th edition, but later, the book dealer that I knew at a time, managed to secure a copy of  the 2nd edition for me directly from author. That was around 1992. It is totally out of print, so your best bet is either Amazon or some used book dealers in Germany. In fact, the 2nd edition was out of print by 1992.

The book is a classic and everyone should have a copy!

Best,

I managed to find one from 1978 but they want over 200 Euros for it. I think I will get my local library to loan me a copy before I decide to pay that much.

I don't know where I got this pic, and always assumed by the file name it was a Telefunken....but it looks pretty cool to me <g>.

I have two w66a faders I want to use as attenuators and I can't find a pin out for it anywhere. Would anyone happen to know what it is? Thanks much!

Just pop up the lid, follow the wires and  measure. It shouldn't be THAT difficult. ;)

Check this (scroll down to the bottom of the page):

and also take a look at W66 documentation.

Best,

I know this thread is old but I just wanted to let you know I have treated myself to the 1978 edition for Christmas. Next year I will be learning German by reading this book!

Cheers
