That 1246 line receiver troubles

The 1246 line receivers in my mix buzz 500 compressor have both died, the first about 6 months ago the second last week. Not at the same time and without any warning. I've just taken it apart and checked voltages and all looks good. Replaced the chip ( I bought a couple extra when the first one died) and all works fine again.

Seems weird to have them both fail and I can't see anything wrong. Are they not very reliable generally or overly delicate? Anyone have any thoughts?

That's...interesting.  I've used many (currently using some in my little summing thing I built - though not a Mixx Buzz) and have yet to have had any problems with any.  And I'm not exactly gentle with my ICs...
