I had been looking at Ali Express a couple days before these posts on the gold drop knock-off, and ran across a U47-esque body with solid state electronics and fake gold drop. Strange!

I will add that in my opinion the JZ mics are useful and can give some good sounding results.

Does anyone have a picture of the Audio Technica capsule without the resonator on it? I was researching something and read an article that described the diaphragm as having some sort of pattern embossed into it. The description was making me think of gold drops and the like.

Ok 4033 and 4040 gut shots, as well as a close up of the 4033 capsule where you can see a bit of the backplate hole pattern.

4033 - Old:

4033 "A" variation, newer:

4033A Capsule rear- definitely a construction difference from the older 4033 non-A version:

You can actually see the pattern in the last image in this post. KSM32 has something like this as well.

made a huge breakthrough with the k89 today. it's always been a bit weird, the assembly doesn't make sense or seem physically possible from a normal standpoint. the tolerances should not allow the capsule to go together. but then i had an idea: what if the k89 is assembled frozen? so i popped it it my freezer:

it fell right apart. the k89 is, indeed, assembled frozen.

That‘s very generous!!
You lending me one was generous, I don't see any serious issues with manufacturing this. I don't think it could have been done with the mass production shop but I'm sure my friend will have a blast with this. I see how they did the isolation between the sides but no clue how they're actually getting it done. It seems like there is machined hard plastic inside the larger ring? I think they might put a blob of plastic in there, wait for it to harden and then machine it. The outer ring seems like it's just a ring, I think the retaining ledge is plastic, which is problematic... But not out of our scope. This is definitely going to be an expensive capsule. I don't think I could offer this at retail for less than $400, which is basically what they go for on the used market so there's not much cost savings to be done here.
