Hello,
some time ago I bought a non-working Astatic mic.
when I opened it it didnt have the original crystal capsule inside, instead someone at some point instaled what it seems a cheap Merula dynamic capsule.

The Mic wires were attached to a big and heavy round metal box,
I opened that box, and inside there was a round Melodium transformer Type E 40 ES.

I translated from french what was written on the transformer:

"Micro Grid Coupling Transformer
primary
to plug the microphone
secondary
to be connected to the grid to ground
Screen
to connect to ground"

Anyone has used this transformer in the past or has any info related to it?

Thanks

Anyone has any info or

This is the big, heavy and thick  round metal box that was covering the transformer.

I supose this is some kind of shielding, hope that is shields as good as it weights.

never seen that brand,

Really?
Melodium was a French Ribbon Microphones manufacturer, most well know for their "Type 42 B". This microphone is regard has having  quality/performance on par with RCA and Coles ribbon mics.
It's highly collectable.

Although I knew about this mic, and actually already used one, I never had seen one Melodium transformer.

I have no idea about turns ratio, or it's application.

I opened up the transformer case to look inside and see if I could replace the rotten wires for new ones.
The transformer itself is quite small and it's glued with resin inside a tube. Actually the resin is so old that is mainly dust now.
I will clean it an take some pics.
