I'm building a Drip Opto 4 LA-2A - it's almost complete apart from a couple of resistors and the hookup of the off-board parts.  I'm wondering if I could get away with mounting the power trafo inside the case so I can keep the depth of the unit in check?  Or would this be strongly advised against?  The case is already 11" deep, with an externally mounted PT it'll take the unit to 14" deep.

Here's my case and the approximate floating position of the PT:

What do you suggest I do?

try it inside and see, if too much hum, move it back to the patio,

may depend on your input transformer,

HA 100X has triple shields, A-10 has just the case,

Jensen/Sowter/Lundahl will probably have 1 mu can,

that is a line level box so not as critical as a mic preamp, however, an A-10 is a mic input 1:10 so you almost have a mic preamp habitat on the front end,

the best place is 2 feet away in a power supply box but now we are getting too much into the hardware and not the feeling of the performance,

I would say outside. Probably not that much in it, but there's no real reason for inside is there?

I've done both and wouldn't do an anything but a toroid inside again.

Also, wouldn't it help to drill new mounting holes and move the PCB closer to the front of the chassis to give you more room.  That's what I'd be contemplating.
