i've found a couple of old transformers in my bits box.

I've checked with a multimeter/1khz tone and they seem to be 1:2 turns ratio. I also have a couple of apex 460. Can i use these transformers in the mics to replace the chinese ones ?

thanks

just measured the impedance 200:800 - would this be too low for the output stage of the mic amp to drive ?

Dale,

What tranformer(s) have you used in your mods? I've got one of these mics and am looking at remodelling it. So far, I'm looking at removing the inner grill, replacing the tube and transformer of course. Do you have a schem (even a rough sketch) of all the mods you've done? These mics are a steal (at L&M in Canada especially), but stock they're a bit nasty in the 9kHz region.

Have you tried the new Apex ribbon mic yet? I'm curious to see how it stacks up for it's tiny price (around $250 Canadian I think).

Thanks,

Warren

is the apex ribbon mic the same as the nady ? if so I've got one of the T.bone variants.

I wasn't as impressed as I hoped I was going to be. Only used it on acoustic guitar so far but I thought the bottom end seemed a bit 'out of whack' - this was on a big bodied gibson which is quite a 'full' sounding guitar. Used another mic in the end.

PS - cheers for the info Dale, i see you made similar posts at gearslags - a detailed list of your mods would be great...I was hoping that Gus would do something similar for his mods. Basically, assume I'm an idiot who can't think for himself and you would be pretty close to the mark !
