Trial for former police officer

I couldn't find the old thread where we last discussed this incident, I have been waiting for the rest of the story for a couple years now. They have finally seated a jury for the trial of the Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot an unarmed woman (dual Australian/American citizen) who called 911 to report a possible rape in 2017. He is charged with murder and manslaughter. His lawyers plan to argue self defense. He shot her as she approached his squad car. Prosecutors say there is no evidence he faced a threat that justified deadly force.

We may learn more about this, or not... The wheels of justice can turn pretty slowly.

The Irish police commisioner was in the news here  , apparently while being escorted from his home in Northern Ireland by the PSNI down to work in Dublin a security barrier in HQ didnt allow his jeep in and damaged the underside of the  PSNI  vehicle , it all looks a bit odd as he's getting the Northern Irish police to do his security while traveling  in the Republic . Its like he doesnt fully trust the force he's head of to do the job . I probably wouldnt either if I was him .

Luckily we still have a mostly unarmed police force in this country .There was a time when the cops would tangle with anti state in the aftermath of bank robberies , but now its all garage forecourt  ATM robberies , in the dead of night miles from nowhere . A Cat digger gets stolen , the cash machine is smashed out of the wall and hoisted onto the back of a truck , four to five minutes the crooks are away leaving the digger in flames . Insurance picks up the tab of course , the people who loose out are the small rural towns who rely on the hole in the wall for cash , still when you look at it in real terms 50,000 or 100,000 is a lot less than the cost of lives , murder enquiries and trials . The big criminal gangs in the capitol ,there blowing each other away on a weekly basis , I guess their doing the cops job for them in one way , even though the cops have actually foiled and prevented the murders of several scumbags in recent times .
