I am really trying to address this to CJ but his box is full, since he seems to have the most in depth knowledge of all different transformers and stuff. I haven't read of anyone hacking perfectly good pieces apart to "get at em". But can someone, ANYONE, tell me what the hell is the magic of the pultec eqp stuff????? What makes the transformers so special and hard to create? Is it the inductor? Are these fused from yellow cake? Sum of the parts I get but why doesn't a tube tech do a pultec?

Hope someone, somewhere, sometime, in some frame of mind can shed some light on this for me.

Tired and willing.

Useless .... you can't demistify a Pultec. It's a Box Of Mojo. Go away.

Hmmmm, helpful info tv. Well I am interested in hearing from those that have pulled apart the transformers in these things. I can read a circuit diagram and I have owned a commercial recording studio for eight years so I am not uninformed. So if this thread dies without anything useful being contributed, so be it. But keep the quips in yer arse.

Cordially and with cheer,

how about first trying to break the question about the sound into two parts to get somewhere.

1) basic sound, controls at 0 or bypassed. (virtually the same thing). The signal still goes through all trannies and amp. Do you get your mojo and kicks already?
2) EQ:ing. The HOLY top end etc.

The EQ section interacts a bit with the transformers, but then the analysis really starts to get complicated and I doubt that the answer is there.

Where are they getting the lams to make the 217 clone?  I thought that tooling was tossed in the dumper years ago.  Pure unobtainium.

I'm always a little leary of folks claiming to be making a 100% accurate clone when some of the bits haven't been available for years.

I hope it's for real though.  That'd be cool.

Dave Collins doesn't do BS. They spent years and years working on this and could have released it at any time but waited until they felt they had nailed it.  If I was in the market for a Pultec type thing I would be this unheard, that's how much I trust Dave's work and ears.

Cheers,
Ruairi
