Hi,
I have two 24v AC transformers & I need to wire them in series to use as a single 48v, center-tapped transformer for a particular project. The secondary wiring is easy to figure but I'm a bit unsure about how best to wire the two primaries to work together correctly. I assume the primaries should be wired in parallel but wonder if one of the primaries should be reversed polarity. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks,

Skip Beach

if you get the phase wrong when paralleling the primaries it will be wrong on the secondary and you wont measure 48vac across...then you will need to swap either a prime or a sec...get this sorted before you connect it to any kind of load

Buy a 40 volt xfmr and save the 24's for API project.
Don't be a freak.
Two transformers for one voltage is, just,...well, we just don't do that in this day and age.
Heck, nobody I can think of has a chassis with dual xfmr's for power.
Never seen it done, except PG and E, maybe.
Any EE would probably throw up.
Twice the money, twice the weight, twice the space, just unwind one of the units and add twice the wire.

Aww, c'mon CJ, where's your sense of redundancy and "more parts the better" ?   You've been spending too much time "becoming at one with the windings!" I've done this on occasion for experimenting, but for the final product it works out neater to have one.

wait.......and idea.........

as always, from someone else's freaky idea,...
.
.what about two power transformers, positioned so that the stray flux cancels?

humbucking pwr transformers.

Talk about a new audiophoolery tweak that might actually work....

no wait....torroidal pwr trans, same effect, but one transformer.

back to the............drawing board?
wait, this is the drawing board.
so where do I go?
howabout hell and back?
who sunk the Titanic?
was it Al Quaida, or is that a French cheese?
