having a small bunch of THAT vca's i was wondering what else we can build using them? i'm only using 3 for a 4K buss compressor!

I know somme desk uses VCA's. Something useful in DIY what would be?

Correct, the SSL compressor is the only application for a VCA. No others exist.

You really need to research a little more before demanding an answer. Besides, the term "VCA" is much, much broader than you think.

I've been tempted to use one as a second harmonic generator. If you feed input into Ec you'll generate second harmonic...See bullet point 5:

I've done that on a compressor. Works with the GSSL and picocomp too. You may want to filter it, as you get some severe intermodulation. Works really well for individual tracks. It's pure second, but you can rectify before feeding it to get third.

OK, sounds good. Beer's law? I've heard of Beverage Antenna but Beers law?
Tell me more....[/quote]

Given a reference light intensity I(0) and a measuring cell light intensity I(1), the concentration of whatever you are measuring is equal to K * ln(I(0)/I(1)). There's a log in there, and you can use a VCA in a logging circuit if you want to....

Many analyzers, however, do a piecewise interpolation after doing a spanning process at several concentration points, say, 16 or 32 points between zero gas (usually N2) and span gas. Given digital technology, it's no surprise.

It's actually the Beer-Lambert law.

How about an autopanner?

You should be able to do it with the GSSL PCB, an ICL8038 and an inverter stage.
Sine, square or triangular control voltage.
