I have a Vox DA5 that has served me really well for many years (I’ve used it mostly for guitar lessons). Lately it stopped working, and I think the problem is the amp chip has gone out.

The chip is a TDA8943SF/N1,112 ,  6W at an 8 Ω load and a 12 V supply. The circuit contains a Bridge Tied Load (BTL) amplifier with an all-NPN output stage and standby/mute logic. It is 9-lead single in-line (SIL) medium power package. It was originally made by NXP Inc.

Unfortunately it is obsolete. So: what does a DIYer do in this situation? Does anyone know of any chip that could replace this amp chip?

That can be a major PIA but there are probably better modern solutions if you are willing to maybe roll your own adapter PCB.

If really adventurous you might consider a class D IC substitute.

Good luck, this happens all the time. Manufacturers get end of life warnings so can stock up their repair parts inventory. Maybe ask the OEM service dept?
