The first three META links are filled with exactly these.
What the raw theory links (like the one's you posted) often miss is application. For a beginner, or even intermediate aspiring electronics engineer, the theory means very little with no real world examples. Just floats in the air connected to nothing. Hence threads like this one.
Perhaps I should have read the META before recommending starting a new one the same...... nevermind!
Also, those links were meant to be starting points for further reading. I wasn't trying to stifle this discussion.
The only reason the Wiki pages make sense to me is because I had a lecturer stand in front of me and my colleagues for weeks explaining it to us. There is a balance to be struck between reading theory, being taught theory and applying those theories to real circuits.
The reading and the being taught makes the application a lot easier. I'm fortunate that I spent years being taught this stuff and being able to ask questions of experts. I guess that's whats happening here in a very much less formal setting.
I'll shut-up now.....
