Anybody can help me with this 1/4 jack wiring?

I don't understand "Switch opens when 1/4" plug is inserted". I need mono or stereo jack connector? It's very confusing to me....

What is this device?

It looks like they want TS (mono) 1/4 inch connectors and PIN 3 is hot, which is weird in this day and age.

The female jack is a switch as well as a connector. When you insert the plug into it it flips the switch and breaks a connection which is what "switch opens" means.
