Have been using a 25w pencil for years that was only £8.99  !!  ( three new tips but still going )

Time for something better, about €150 is my budget, Weller seem to be VERY expensive in Germany !! WUWT ?

Thanks,
Marty.

I bought one of their ranges about 5 years ago in the UK, plus one of their vacuum de-soldering stations.  Never had a problem, spares are ok as well but I suggest you get a variety of bits.

:)

Cheers

Mike

Weller may be expensive, but we have 3 Weller irons that have seen almost daily use for over 25 years.  New tips, sure, but they keep on chugging.

The Wellers turn up on the used market quite often, as they are more or less industry standard. No real problem in buying second hand, as they don't wear out easily.

Every Gyraf product is still hand soldered with the same Weller TPC I got (used) from a closed electronics company back in 1982.

These are nice too, not Weler, nor Hakko, but does the job, and more.

I have similar to this one but don't use the Heatgun, that's where the fume comes out.

And that's the new one, i guess a good price/quality thing as the one i have, you have to swithc the vaccum tubes between tools tough,
but don't know where the fume comes out on this one.

Thanks for all the tips, I read several reviews and went for an "RS Components" branded station DS50.
Was a reasonable £75 and picked up 4 extra tips for £8.
Has temp control from 150-450 should be SOOO much better than my "Wicks" 25 watt pencil jobby !!  :-[

If it seems at all "flimsy" then I can send it back.

Will keep you all posted on the quality.

Just an update, the RS branded DS50 solder station seems really well put together.
Nice controls, Iron is comfortable, several "tip" options,  a bit of a bargain if you ask me.

.... oh and it might come from RSUK but it was made in China !!
