I've got a 9098 dual mic pre on the bench, the "Mr Rupert Neve" model, if that matters. I noticed that all three of the switch contacts on the DI jacks have been defeated by bending the contacts up so they don't mate, and, when you select the DI button, the unit is noisy. I had another of the same model unit on the bench in 2015 (I keep a record of everything I service) and it had the same thing done to the DI jacks. I replaced those at the time and the fault cleared up.
So, my question: Does anyone know WHY this would have been done? Now that I've seen it on two units, 149 s/n's apart, I suspect that it was done to try and correct some other issue.
