Oscilloscopes on eBay are surprisingly inexpensive. Even for old Tek workhorses that claim to be fully operational.

Whatya think?

yup, lot's of good deals to be had, just make sure that you see a picture of it working...

There's so much competition for oscilloscopes on the bay now that you can score big time with a little research and patience.

agreed,

plus, for most of what we do, exact calibration 'probably' isn't required.

an old 2236 here - cheap - works great

Deals on all test equipment. Companies and schools dump that stuff every couple of years no matter if it's working or not. With the mass upgrades you get mass sell offs.

You can't beat a good, working Tek scope. Period. A used "portable" model Tek (2213, 2215, 2235, 465, etc.) costs the same or less than a new, junky, made-in-who-knows-where model you might find in Fry's or wherever. You may never need the bandwidth, but the quality is worth it, IMO.

Or if you have the bench space, go for a 7000 series Tek frame and plug-ins. These things are getting really cheap and are excellent scopes. You can get a 100MHz frame, a two channel v amp plugin and a timebase plugin for about $400. Add another two channel plugin for under $100 and you've got a killer 4 channel setup.

Try John Bau for reasonable prices on known good test equipment. I've bought a few things from him in the past. eBay is a crapshoot.
