I've seen a rackjob somewhere with a hipass sidechain added.

The side-chain is supposed to be a full pass, but if the transformers are not exactly like the originals, it's possible to boost the bass output by reducing the bass on the side-chain.  In effect, the side-chain produces less CV if the bass is cut, less CV from the bass input equals less bass compression and a fuller range output.  I guess this is what you mean by a high pass side chain.

On my schematic, the bass bypass cap (on the side chain) is reduced to 4.7uF which gave a decent low end frequency response overall.
