Hi.I'm newbie.

I want to build Neve 1081 from this circuit http://www.jlmaudio.com/1081circuit.jpg
But i have no transformer for it in my country.

What can i do ?

Please help!

What country?

Maybe someone here knows where to get transformers.... many suppliers ship to many places.

To make it "work", you may use a small 24:120VAC power transformer. The ratio is not right but that is OK. Some small power transformers pass most of the audio band and some will cut the treble; you prefer all the windings (primary and secondary) in one lump rather than two lumps.

Alternatively you could look at the many transformerless mike preamps.

Hi PRR.I'm from Turkey.I didn't find audio transformer but i didn't know that i may use a small 24:120VAC power transformer. Thanks for idea.I will try small power transformer. If i can't do it like you say,i will try transformerless pre-amp.

By the way can i use other discrete op-amps in this circuit? E.g. 2520,Urei Op-amp or something else?Cause i can't find all components in my country. So i have to build hybrid pre-amp.

All transformers for the 1081 are available at http://www.audiomaintenance.com/acatalog/Transformers_and_Inductors.html

Hey guys! Thanks for ideas.

I have another question. How can i add phantom power ? Can someone send me circuit with phantom power?

Thanks.

Tunca,

the schematic you are referring to is not the complete Neve 1081.
It is merely the front end and missing parts as  phantom power and output circuit.

If you want something similar but more complete  there is the 1290/1073 project:

As Tekay said are the transformers possible to get from Colin at Audiomaitenance
but its maybe not really a beginners project.

A simpler (but good) project is the API312/Access:
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=43484.0
There you can use many different discreet opamps like the 2520...

Hop this helps.

Thanks for help but i can't understand  :-\ I'm idiot i guess.I'm really newbie...

Can i build hybrid pre-amp that i use BA183 from that? Is BA183 discrete op-amp right?

By the way i don't understand why this (  http://www.jlmaudio.com/1081circuit.jpg ) circuit is not OK?

I want to build NEVEish mic pre-amp.

The complete 1081 includes an eq... that schemo is just showing you the preamp section of the 1081...  which is fine if you don't care about having phantom,
polarity etc at the front end, and you don't mind unbalanced outputs at the back (which are pretty easily sorted if you really want to use this circuit)

I would suggest that you look into the 1290... do a search for ez1290 around the board

cheers

Hi Davo,thanks for reply.

Actually i don't understand what schematic that i use  :'(

Can you post links?

Hey! I find a layout. http://jlmaudio.com/JLM1272simplemod.pdf

I think that's easiest way to build Neve 1272 right?

But i can't find transformer and actually i have no money for now.I want to learn " How can i build transformerless preamp? " If you say the way of build transformerless i will be really happy!!!  ;D

Just tell me what can i use?

or..

Can i use small power transformer and which?

Guys! I know ı know!! I'm idiot but i'm really really newbie  :-[

The problem with a transformer-less neve is that part of the neve sound comes from the transformers.

If you want to go trafoless, I'd suggest checking out the "green pre"... it's an amek circuit from the mozart console

cheers
