Hi all,

I've seen a mic pre schematic that has phantom applied to the center tap of the primary of the input transformer through a 3.3k resistor, rather than at the input connector through two 6.8k resistors. What is the difference? Is it safe for the transformer?

Thanks

As long as you're ONLY connecting balanced stuff to it, the transformer will be fine. It can get problematic if one end is shorted to ground, so that the input transformer sees unbalanced DC that possibly saturates the core.

I like the "modern" way much better.

Thanks, Jakob. I'll do it the modern way! I'm a 21st Century guy. :green:
