Hi there,

I'm using an old 16bit Pro Tools III system with the 882 input hardware. The 882s have 8 1/4" ins, that run through some kind of A-to-D converter. I've never liked the sound of the 882s converters. Is there any way I can change them out or bypass them and use other converters?

I know this is an outdated system, but that's why I don't care if I accidentally destroy something.

Any help/comments are appreciated!

Thanks!
Aaron

If you want a really low-rent option, check out these little boxes at Radio Shack-

15 bucks for stereo 16/44.1 A/D with S/PDIF and optical out with a passive SVHS converter thrown in. These are a lot quieter with the optical out and associated circuitry removed and you can find the schematic on the web.
Not available online, so take the cat.# with you when you visit the store. They won't know what the hell you're talking about and they'll have to find it in the back room.

Sadly, no I don't. I'll try to find it though. May be tough, cuz the page was in Chinese. The schematic is in English though. But as I recall, I kind of found it by accident.

Come to think of it, all I had was the datasheets for the two main chips-
TC9287AF and TC9271F
which I got off the Toshiba website. The circuit is pretty easy to trace out. I removed the circuitry for the auto-record, optical link, and the SVHS conversion.
