owdooz,

Just been working on another dual '76 - this time with input transformers n some of NYDs t-atten's. Finished the frontpanel today, reused an exsisting case (was a vu panel prior) painted up with silver hammerite. The graphics were done with lazertran bake-on paper...pretty chuffed with the result:

The lil VUs i scored of ebay. I've since opened em up and araldit'ed a cpl of bright blue leds in each for illumination...

Looks amazing, well done!

How do you find this paint? I did my last front panel with blue hammerite and wasn't at all happy with the result. The paint indefinitely stays "soft" and is very prone to damage. Any pressure will create a dent in it, and any scratch will peel it right off to the black underneath. I put about 6 thin coats on, too...

Hey,

The paint is from the local hardware store - pretty common to find in these neck of the woods...

I used one of those mini sponge rollers and applied 2 coats only. It does take a good few days (weeks even?) to set hard your right - I also used a spraypaint primer on the baremetal beforehand (also takes ages to set tight) and finally used some acrylic laquer (3+ coats) to seal it all...might wirewool it a smidge to take some of the sheen of (the pic makes it look more glossy then it is)...

Cheers,

nice "RA" logo :green: :thumb:

What does RA mean? :?: :?: :green:

Are the black panels also done with lazertran? White on black colour? I thougt this isn't possible? :?: Or are the black areas made with lazetran and the screws are not.. ahem.. "real" ? :?:

Frank.

The Hammerite stuff takes a LONG time to cure. I painted a vintage rack back in February. The can says it takes 6 to 8 weeks to fully cure. I have so many projects I am working on right now that by the time I get around to finishing them all, the Hammerite will be fully cured, I'm sure. :green: Actually, it should be fully cured already. Watch when you reduce, I believe my father had to reduce 25% or 33%. Also, it was tricky because he had to use full pressure out of the gun. HTH.

Frank - thats my NA logo not RA ;)...I've had it for a good few years since before I diy'ed...so the joined lettering (which is nuttin new in design) wasnt pinched of you! I only put it in that triangle like the UA version (but this was inspired by your clone of that ;p)

Dunno what RA means but The N/A is for the notapplicable :thumb:

Re the lazertran - yup on the 2 panels, all black with text left white so the painted panels (silver) would show thru the transparent (non-black toner) areas - no special inks ere just a 50 quid laser!

The screws are real ye - they attach those 2 plates to the main panel...I didnt wanna glue them..
