40636 eqivalent??

in the process of getting a BGW 250B back up to snuff, i think at least one of the RCA 40636's is toast (and now that whole channel gets HOT!), where can i find a 40636, or is there an good modern equivalent?? i read somewhere that 2n3055 may be close?, thanks guys

What is the voltage in the circuit? There is an NTE equivalent for that part, but it has a 180V rating which is probably unnecessary.

Be wary of 2N3055's however, as there has been much discussion in here about wide variations in what's inside packages marked as such. There may be a good deal of flat-out counterfeits around as well.
