imo it isnt worth the effort to open these, just replace them, but the way API acts like you are trying to scam them out of parts every time you try to buy a replacement might make me reconsider.

Any idea what is the most common failure mode of a 2520?

Cheers

Ian
Most of the time I encounter them open circuit. Sometimes they are noisy or lazy. Five Fish audio makes a test jig, I put mine on a box with XLR I/O and use a CAPI 500 series SMPS. Great tool if you care for an API or two.

My experience was similar, noisy, DC on output or distorting. Only a few that just didn’t work full stop.
Lazy???

I seem to remember a few that just went low output. Might not have been API brand ones, thinking about it now, but if I remember correctly they were something like -24db on output compared to replacement.

EDIT: I remember now, they were in some 525s I repaired. They were potted but not a brand I recognized.

Never experienced that fault. But now remember I had a number that oscillated, and often the faults never appeared until they'd been on for a few days!
