I wanted to post this for thoughts/criticisms. Have built a *few* tube circuits, so as far as an amp goes wanted to start out with something relatively simple. I have an old book from Popular Science, has quite a few amp projects from this one, to 6B4G, a few variations on the All American 5 superhet....
The AC line phono amp seemed the most simple to do and adapt. Also, pretty simple to layout on a tagstrip.
I figured I could replace the 50C5 with 6W6, and different PSU. Also, perhaps replace the 12AT6 with a 12AX7 or a 6N2P and use DC for the heaters. (wasting a triode section initially, but thought could either add a another gain stage, or if it works out OK, build a stereo version. ) Initially, use an Edcor XSE transformer.
BTW the edcors have a screen tap too, is there any reason not to use it?
The PSU is from the Duncan amps tool, and I wanted to keep the voltage about the same as the original to start out with so I could use the same components overall and same design, except for tube selection.
