8 channel mixer?

I suspect that more people than me have been thinking about building a 8 ch. mixer to use as a "summingmixer" out of my MOTU 828 Interface. Has anyone done any research? I was thinking maybe Level, Pan and an insertjack on all 8 channels, as this would give me a nice way of inserting analogue gear on the way out of Logic7. Maybe also an insertpoint on the stereo out. Any suggestions? I´ve been lookin at the TL A mixer but I think it´s way to expensive for this purpose.
