Although several "classic" analog chips have been resurrected the classic SAD "bucket brigade" chips haven't
The SAD1024 is used in most of the classic Flanger pedals such as the ADA and the EH Electric Mistress. Modified circuits and DSP modeling haven't caught the unique sound that an analog circuit creates.
Has anyone found a plug-in design using newer delay chips that can be substituted into a SAD1024 circuit?
Thanks

There is a later version of the ADA Flanger, or it maybe was only the DIY project, I'm not sure. It uses the MN3007 in lieu of the SAD1024. You should be able to find both schematics and compare how to apply the changes.

I've seen the redesigned ADA Flanger with the MN3007 and a review of its circuit shows what others have found with the MNXXXX chips vs the older SAD type of bucket-brigade chips, there are significant differences in the chips that need to be addressed such as input capacitance and timing voltages, etc. I've seen SAD1024 replacement circuits that essentially are the whole delay, timing, and modulation chain rebuilt so that the same family of chips are used.
The Cool Audio V3207 could be a perfect replacement - 8 pin to 16 pin adapters are easily built/bought, but it isn't two 512 stage delays that the SAD1024 is. In the Morley, ADA, and other flangers the two delay circuits are run in parallel as two 512 stage channels, not one 1024 stage.
While parallel 1024 stages could work, the Panasonic type chips MNXXXX like the V3207 need different clock circuits than the SAD chips.
I've seen threads about using 2 MN3009 chips in series (2 x 256) but the quality would drop, you'd really need 4 MN3009 to have the parallel 512 lines.
MN3001's were dual 512 stage designs, but the issue with clock remains, if you can find them

yup, Reticon stopped making bucket brigade analog shift registers decades ago... So did matsushita (panasonic) but chinese fab have knocked off old MN30xx series BBDs.

It seems there are easier ways to make short delays using digital. Making BBD distortion not as easy, or worthwhile IMO.
