where can i get one? i've seen them pop up on ebay but havent seen one in month or two.
is there a replacement? i think a m49 used the 701 and the m49b used a 6072, but maybe i'm wrong.
is this a nice tube, or just expensive cause its rarity? should i go with something else?

read on another thread that some guy outside of memphis has about 400 of them in his shop he's selling. anyone know who this is?

thanks.

When last checked Colomor had sold out their last.
Billington has according to their on-line list one used (probably a reject or to noisy for pro audio use)

Don?t pay to much attention to the ?K? (klingarm) designation. After 1965 all AC701 were manufactured according to the higher spec. of the ?K? type. In the early days (1955-1965) the ?k? type has significant lower microphonics due to the somewhat different construction and internal bulid.

As with all tubes its is a matter of selection. Neumann and Schoeps selected AC701 internally and relabelled them with a ?tested for microphones? label.
