I have an old JBL 3-way speaker system (Model - LX3) the drivers of which are disintegrated. I want to rebuild the system with the old enclosure and new drivers and amp/crossovers as required. I have never done this before though I would love to do it. I dont have any idea about which drivers to choose (though I am inclined to buy DAYTON speaker drivers after having done some research) but open to other suggestions. Budget around $500-$600. I am travelling to China next week and planning to buy from there. Can somebody throw some light please?

I think your budget is probably a bit low for anything halfway decent, and to stay even close, you'll probably have to go with passive x-overs. The least expensive route would be to find the specs of the original drivers and crossover and try to replace the drivers with ones with similar specs and re-cap the x-over. The problem I've found is that modern speakers often don't match the hole pattern of a lot of older consumer drivers. JBL might be different, and they might even have modern equivalents. Some speakers used odd-sized diameters, too. Check out Part-Express for kit ideas and somewhere like https://www.usspeaker.com/ for driver options.

Come to think of it - if it's just your surrounds that have disintegrated, you might be able to replace the surrounds. Kits are available - just search "speaker surround kit" or similar. You might still want to test and recap the x-overs.

A quick Google search of your speaker found this thread that contains the x-over schematic and lots of other details... https://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?39503-JBL-LX3-1-Crossover-Question

I've replaced the surrounds on a few of my old tired hifi speakers. It's not that hard.
