Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has ever fixed an akai MPC60 (or similar) screen, that has a row of dead pixels?

A thorough google search brought up lots about replacing backlights / EL panels, but very little about repairing screens with a dead row..

Thanks!

Before getting midevil on the MPC, clean the ribbon cable and or contacts. Often the display is not getting a small part of the signaling and that shows up as issues like you described.

I've been dealing with displays recently for my synths and have just enough info to make me dangerous. I don't think the displays are custom made to the point where say a single word like "Instrument" is driven by a 1 or 0 in a register or string.  They may be custom in size etc or pixels if anything.  A example of this would be a Ensoniq ASR-10 or EPS Screen .

Best place to start is look at the original displays IC and then pull the data sheet for it and do some reverse engineering.  If it has a common IC number then you will have to try and figure out the resolution and see if you can find a comparable sized unit with the same pinouts.  I often use the incoming inverter display power (5v often) as my LED backlight power. Make sure to remove the inverter too, they often are linked to noise.
