AKG D12E Alternative Capsules?

Hi All,

I have 2 dead AKG D12E Mics. One has a hole through the membrane and burned off voice coil wires. The other has an intact membrane, but again detached coil wires. The rest of the unit is in fine shape, and it's gutting that these are now just trash.

I know finding replacement capsules is next to impossible, but is there any alternative mods that can be done to give these some life again?

i know mr drefahl had the last nos capsule about 3 years ago. write him. he might still have it. i dont think there is any replacement.

Who can fix these?  I have one that needs repaired.  I would take it apart but I have been told they are tricky and can be damaged even more if you don't know what you are doing when taking them a part.

I get asked almost weekly, but I know of no available diaphragms and coils for these.


If your mic is making a sound but lacking bass, SSLtech posted a nice tutorial about realigning the coil.

However, the hardest part is desoldering and resoldering the coil wires, which are very fine. If you feck that up, it is a BAD thing. So take utmost care.

I've wrecked a few dynamic mics and wouldn't want to start out on a nice vintage one either
