a $100 firewire interface from behringer... I wonder if we can mod it? higher performance converters, better frontend...

the mind woggles at the thought :green:

It's probably ok, assuming the drivers are alright.

I'd imagine it will be almost entirely surface-mount making mods a bit of a no-no.

$100 is fairly cheap.

I got an M-A*udio Transit 24/96, 2 in 2 out USB interface which seems to do the job fine for £25.

Hmmm. I'm thinking about changing the decoupling capacitors.

we'll see, i think it's just a stereo box, although if it's either a bridgco or wavefront semiconductor device, i'm sure it could be opened up a little. :)

Well... here have you one of these opened:

(beware >2mb)

I have not tools to solder/unsolder surface mount components, but I'd like to tweak the box.
Suggestions? I have several Elna ros silmic 10uF to start with for the audio path.
What do you think?

Thanks all!

oooohhhh :)

Now I'm a happy bunny...

So, those AD86xx devices look like opamps...
The Cirrus device is an AD converter.

That oxford semi device is a 2in8out device.

I'm trying to work out where the DAC is though... I think it's below the 10uF below that cirrus device.

Providing those clocks can be "understood" better converters could easily be patched in... with our own frontend

I have not a mag glass here to read the numbers on that chip (I'm getting old to see this little crap) ...but it seems to read 3450 d513. It is possible?

Regards.

mmm unbalanced inputs... maybe a upgrade here is better than better ADC.

yes, but liked to keep it small (I have other interfaces and the aim of that adventure was to get a very portable one).
