Supposedly the first Sovteks were pretty bad, but the latest ones are pretty good, at least in guitar amps.
I do not know when you bought yours, but they might be worth another listen. KCA sells them and tests them first.
I kept hearing very very low level intermittent crackling/hiss.
Aha! I am currently having the same problem in my Marshall JCM 800 that I just retubed! I thought it was bias, so I did the adjustment, but I found that I still have the problem. I bought the tubes new from www.thetubestore.com so I didn't suspect them, but it couldn't hurt to swap out preamp tubes, I suppose.

Hmm. The LPS Sovteks have the spiral filaments, which are supposed to nix hum from an AC heating circuit. That wouldn't be a problem with DC heating, would it? Maybe just crappy, but you wonder.

I hear good things about the JJ's, and for stages not prone to microphonics, the current issue EI's are good. Can't afford NOS.

I tried Sovteks in gtramps already a few times,
but they still don't do it for me... might be me, who knows?

I don't know if gtramps is similar to valvegear for recording/compression in terms of valvequality.

just my 0,02?
