I never really made a good one before. You can get one from here http://www.groupdiy.com/detail.aspx?ID=169 for less than what it would cost to make one of similar quality IMHO.

As for the distance and angles, I use around a 90 degree angle for XY with the capsules at the same point. I also like ORTF micing. For that use a angle of about 110 degres with a distance of 17 cm or so between capsules.

Most cheap stereo bars I've seen are really flimsy. I got a couple of drum hardware clamps like this one-

and some 3" and 4" mic stand extension tubes. They go wide enough to do ORTF and you can adjust them for about any setup you can think of. Also solid as a rock. Especially if you use Gibraltar clamps.

Look at the dpa ones. IIRC it has a slot so you can adjust the distance between them maybe a cheap protractor could be adapted for setting the angles.

Also I heard lotsa good things about Sabra--they definitely much cheaper than DPA. Here is distributor in Europe:

I had a ST2. I returned it the plastic parts did not hold LD microphones well. Maybe it is good for SDs.

The K&M brand bar is good but not adjustable.

I asked a similar question on Gearslutz, and everyone said to avoid the Sabra stuff and get the AEA bars. Which I would love to do if i had the $300 (or whatever) for the 17-inch bar. Everyone seemed to think the Sabra stuff was too cheap and broke too easily.

I was mainly looking for something that I could mount two G7's on, either in ORTF style or vertically so I could mount Blumlein. You can buy hexagonal bar up to 6 feet from McMaster-Carr. So are the sliding mounts sturdy enough to hold large mics if the bar is vertical?

If needed I could set the sliding mounts and then drill them into place and just have the one bard for vertical only.

Good to know--I was looking at those. Thanks.

I know this says "Ultimate" but it is the K&M that I am familiar with. I have one of these and it works very well. Great price too.

HTH!

I should have clarified that I haven't used the ST2 with LD mics. Just the little guys. Seems just fine for them. Now I have to make an assembly anyway.

I have the non adjustable one. That one looks interesting.
