Hello!

I am not getting much traction on "Geekslutz" so I thought maybe one of you very wise electronics folks might be able to help me on here.

Here is a link to my dilemma with pictures and all! https://www.gearslutz.com/board/geekslutz-forum/8403-api-525-card-connector-pinout-mod.html

As you can see -- I did the connector pinout mod for the 525 to make it go into a 500 series rack and it works great! Unfortunately, the meter doesn't work! I didn't do the "lamp" modification. Is that why? How do I do the lamp modification?

Could it just be a bad meter? Or?

If I could get the meter going, it would be AWESOME.

Thank you so much in advance for your wise gear guru assistance !!!

It looks like the lamp that backlights the meter gets power from 10 & 11 and wants +24v and gnd.
In instructions it says to jumper to +16 and gnd to light the meter (probably somewhat dimmer due  to the lower voltage).
"jump" means to directly connect with a wire: 10 to 12  then  11 to 13.

The meter should still work unless the unit is in bypass - even without the lamp, (the meter should bounce with GR). So, if the meter really doesn't work,  there is a problem somewhere in the unit.
I'd check the bypass switch first.

Can you measure the voltage with the meter disconnected?

Sorry for my electronic newbieness. How would I do this? I have an ohm meter, which I can check with... so I would unsolder the meter cables and put both ends on a meter? If I recall, the meter had multiple cables going in and out of it though.

Thank you again for your help!

that suggests you may have connected the wrong "cables"; if you had connected the lamp instead of the meter, that would be an explanantion.
You have an ohmmeter. So apply it to the meter; you should see the needle of the meter moving, as well as that of the ohmmeter. If the polarity is right, the meter should mopve in the right direction, if not it should slightly move to the left. Anyway, that would prove it works somewhat, and you would be sure that it's the right "cables".
Then, after you have established the meter works and you connected it correctly, you should check the GR voltage is properly connected. So you should disconnect the meter, use your ohmmeter, in voltmeter mode, on a low caliber (3-10V depending on what's available), with the compressor working, you should see the voltmeter needle move.
