How much are we trying to scrape off the top? Maybe another layer of something up in the head basket could tame the highs?

Could you maybe wire up the second unused triode to have some gain and then wrap some feedback around that?

Negative feedback reduces THD, simple filter increases it.

True true true…Right up until clipping, with negative feedback then THD goes through the roof a lot more abruptly and nastier sounding than without negative feedback. Of course it also linearizes frequency response…lowers output impedance….
