Additional notes for all fella around Noth America, US and Canada.

East coast is now at night, sim and predictions call for aurora up to 45°N and probably can be seen more south at the horizon.
Don't miss that if you can !!! it's a nice experience to see our star cough 🙃

In southern Poland: https://community.spaceweatherlive....64-2024-05-0910/?do=findComment&comment=45419

Today it's the first time I've seen aurora in my life, I didn't ever expect to see it in southern Poland. Reds were clearly visible to the naked eye for a short while and then slowly vanished, but much more could be seen in the photos, even short exposure ones. That's incredible!

@KA-Electonics.com , yes, spaceweather is the best place for monitoring and info about all this.

For info, the photos I take earlier this night (first post) were done in a relatively dense city area (east France) with all light pollution and city haze...country side should have been a better spot.

A couple of months ago we went to Iceland for a long weekend, and as Murphy's law dictated, saw bloody nothing.
Our neighbours recently went on a cruise to Norway to see the Northern Lights and saw absolutely nothing.

Back in the 80s we had a week's holiday in the north of Scotland in October. One evening I went out to get some more logs for the fire and was gobsmacked to see the glory of the Aurora. I quickly grabbed the whole family so they could see it. I sight never to be forgotten.

We were also amazed to find that our dog (who came on holiday with us) grew a lot of really long hairs during that week which dropped out soon after we returned south.

Cheers

maybe not kidding that much !

Sun is not that friendly...hopefully the Earth have a magnetic barrier, that helped a lot for having life around.
In such massive flare episode the barrier break, with all radiation passing trough.

Orbital element may suffer from this, and I think astronauts on ISS goes in the safety module...ready for emergency return.

Peoples may forgot or just don't know, but our modern technologies is weak about that, and we have so many thing depending on it.

For the record, in 1859 a big storm reach the Earth, estimating 5% of Ozone destructed in the atmosphere.
Also inducted current where so high that some telegraph station caught fire, as multiple operators report electric shock...

Cheers
