IIRC there are coax speakers still being sold. How big and what power level. near or far field etc..

This reminded me at the old place there were some posts on DIY speakers.

For high power a sealed box will have better power handling with the same speaker. The box realy needs to be sealed for no air leaks at all. Don't get hung up with low end -3Db points sealed can often "sound" like more bottom because of the more gentle roll off.

With the Arai fives I am putting together now I am using construction adhesive for the adhesive and sealing part and screws.

Hey Butta,

Have you looked at the Barefoot Speakers web site? He posts here sometimes. There are some amazing looking speakers there - worth a look to get ideas at least. I'd keep my eyes out for a pair of used Westlake BBSM 4s or 5s. They seem to be going pretty cheaply these days and you can pick up a White 4700 EQ for peanuts. With a decent amp and a half hour tuning the room I don't see how you could do much better for anything near the money.

The barefoot stuff looks nice. My aria 5s I am building are MTM. I like how the woofer is next to the MTM.

FWIW I built a sealed box bass guitar cab that uses a 18" a Fs of about 60Hz Q of about 1. A friend used his 1,500 watt amp to check it out took it no problem at the time we were testing it it did not have corners or a finish on the plywood so if he slapped the bass the cab would move on the floor.

I finished it in truckbed liner paint.

I am thinking about a MTM with two 8" and a 1.25" tweeter. Someone had posted at the old place that they had built sometime like this and liked it alot. I like coated paper woofers better than plastic I think it is because the plastic Q is to wide and low I find I tend to like Higher Q materal that can be damped better.

FWIW I have noted that plastic floor tile is alot like expensive damping pad.
