thnx in advance

thnx jens i've send them a mail, dunno if they will respond to a silly schematic request but w'll see hehe,

does anybody have the phonnumber of clive green by any chance?

hey jens ..the one in the picture is jan with his cadac indeed , i'm his son..this was our studio a long time ago, we had that console for many years , i even learend mixing on it, very enjoyable learning experience i must say , and yes those monitors are tannoys, but they were DIY and believe it or not they are still alive in a studio 20km away hehe
i've sent cadac a mail too , maybe they'lll be nice like neumann several years back when they posted a schematic request of mine via regular mail within 6 days!! that was surprising... btw congratulations on the semi-finals, i hope we meet in the finals hehehehe

On the bright side, we do have these: http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=16164&highlight=cadac

The above include a gyratory EQ that looks quite interesting.

On the negative side, when it comes to rare schematics (i.e. the early CADAC and the like), a lot of people are scared to share... (I never have been - members here can attest). I know someone with the whole CADAC catalogue, but I doubt he'd let me have copies; and if he did, he'd never speak to me again if I posted them here... Not that being excommunicated would bother me...

We need to find someone who's generous with their CADAC schematics. The early discrete ones are well up there with anything Neve or Helios had to offer.

Cyril @ Raindirk might have them... He's easy to find via Google.

Here ya go - Raindirk has a forum: http://www.triplestarstudio.com/raindirk2/forum/index.php

hey

thanx for the info..i had a reply from cadac, and as soon as we can determine what model it is they will look in the archive for the schematics,. lets wait and see (hope), we also had a very very early cadac, before the quadraphonic one, i'll try to get schematics from that one too, it was even better sounding then the big one in the picture...

Hi !
Any news regarding the schematics ? It`s hard to tell from the picture but for me it looks like the input modules are G228 ( EQ with inductors ) or the G268B ( early Gyrators design ) with the big knobs. My console got G268B/F/G modules and I`m happy to provide any infos on these. (these are quite similiar to the G320 design already posted on the forum) I have also some G228, G229 modules and would also be interested in schematics for them...

hey

this particular model has inductors in the EQ's
since i send the pcitures to that guy at cadac and told him that we dont own the console anymore and i was hunting for one he didnt reply anymore, have send a mail to ask if he received it but i think he's ignoring me or simply to busy ..dunno

So... one must ask;

What the heck are 'Gyrators'.

Looks like some proprietary chip of the time,
likely now available on rolls.

Never realy saw CADAC's except in pictures,
didn't see much outside stuff but British consoles
in the states around that time. German mics sure all over the place.
Not many euro-consoles.

Hi.

Did not see this thread until today!
I own 2 vintage Cadac consoles, both with the 320 style input modules, one small and one bigger one.
The console that your father used to own i believe is the one that Schmitronic had for sale a couple of years ago.
I was going to buy it but a "friend" talked me out of it since he told me that the Gyrators in the Eq was impossible to replace.
Little did I know then that Cadac had made consoles with real inductors and that this desk had them, both in the imput channels but also in all the returns wich had full Eq.
The console was originally for sale as low as 5000 euro, but it was a wreck with no stand or power supplies but would not have been impossible to get going.
About a year later I was in the shop and asked if they still had the console I was told that they sold it the week before to someone outside of Europe.
By chance I saw one of the modules sitting on a bech and had a look, I was not to happy to see that the module had real inductors and I understood what a mistake I had made.
Just the channels from that desk would have been worth alot more than the 6500 euro that the desk finally sold for.

Anyway, I am now the happy owner of two other restoration projects.
One of them a big 28 channel inline type console that came from Italy, see below.
But that is another story!

The studio I worked at in the 70's (Morgan) was one of the main customers for CADAC.
The other main customer was Landsdowne Studios because it was owned by Adrian Kerridge - one of the directors of CADAC.
They always looked nice in pictures because of the champagne gold colour of the modules and the fact that they had lots and lots of lights.
They got very hot and were difficult to maintain.
(The main voltage rail was +44volts if I remember rightly).
Some of their 'innovations' were a little strange - the gyrators (as have already been discussed ) and things like the VCat modules, CADAC's attempt at a VCA. It was a thick film chip manufactured by Newmarket and used to drift all over the place.
The last desk that Morgan bought was an all IC eq which used to add noise even when you cut the gain!.
After that, Morgan bought a Harrison for one of the other studios (there were 4 in London) and to us it was a revelation. A compact, quiet, stable desk with a powerful, musical sounding EQ.
Just a little historical info there.
