Hi Marcus,

Last year I wrote a mail to MBHO and requested price info for the 1000 series capsules. I mentioned that the capsules will be used for my own designs and it seemed from the response i received that MBHO has no problem with this. Also receive quotations. From your post I understand that MBHO has no intention to sell to individuals.
Hope you will reconsider this because I think if a product is good it is a pity to not make it available to people interested in quality. Also you should think about the fact that AKG and NEUMANN gained some antipathy
from users and microphone DIYers because their exclusivist and elitist behaviour.
I had the oposite feeling about MBHO, a company with great products, [ for me the fact that B.R.A.U.N.E.R use your capsule is the best advertisement] that has a good and warm relation with all their customers.
I didn't bought untill now the capsules because I was too busy with studio work and other DIY projects, but all this time I didn't thought for a moment that in the future MBHO will not sell me the capsules. I supose a word is a word and it would be a big disapointment to be treated with a refuse.
Best regards

Hi
I ask Gus about this but probably he didnt read PM.
Here is a (maybe stupid) question:
I have one double SKE106. Is it posible to make two single cardiod capsules from this one?.
Thanks

I just got my B2 pro. I have removed the capsule from the grill part 6 micron I believe. It looks like a very close copy of the k87 even has tape around the backplates. I will measure the cap values and then install it in a tube microphone.

Cool thing if the capsule works out In the USA MF sells b2 pros for $149.99 IIRC. you get a Ok 3 pattern microphone but for a DIYer you get a capsule and mount a few 1G ohm caps a case and shock mount.

The older model B2 looked more like a neumann grill and had a transformer output I don't know if that model is 797 audio built.

[quote author="Tim Campbell"]Dear Duka,
It would require you to make two dummy backplates and two dummy membranes. A lot of work to simply gain another capsule.............quote]

Hi Gus
Thanks for reply
I was thinking - simplified: single membrane with backplate. This capsule have two backplate and I mean if I use e.g. front membrane with backplate and posible make some excange on backplate I can got single capsule. I was reading about diference omni and cardiod but mine english is not so good.
In any case thanks.
When I finish mine mikes I will send some pics and measurement.
Best

Gus, I've got a B2 ( non pro) pulled apart here. would a pic help with identifying the capsule?

Marcus,

I only purchased one capsule from you. I did need a replacement for my damaged CK12 from my silver 414EB (not a Neumann anything), and I was told by David Josephson that MBHO made a good copy. MBHO gave me your name and contact info, so I contacted you.

I did, in fact, have a damaged CK12 in a silver 414EB, so I may have told you about this as my reason for wanting the mic (which is how I originally employed it, as I share in my previous posts above), though I don't recall you needing a reason to sell me the capsule. At that time (probably 3-ish years ago?) I had never DIY'd anything but a pair of Panasonic-based electrec condenser mics which I wrote about in Tape Op. It never occurred to me that I could ever catually build a 'real' mic until I saw Jakob's G7 design around the end of 2002. I still haven't built any more mics, though I plan to later this year, if I can find the time.

Last year (maybe a little less even), I decided to sell off some things in order to fund other purchases, and I decided to sell my MBHO capsule (the only one I bought) as well as the capsule-less 414 (I kept the original CK12 to have rebuilt later). That was probably 2 years after I had purchased it from you. If I had purchased it to resell it (at a loss, BTW) I would have been foolish to wait a couple of years to do so, don't you think?

I'm not used to being accused of inappropriate actions, and I am clearly NOT a reseller (or seller, for that matter) of anything other than my time in my studio. I posted your contact info (I realize now that I should have contacted you to get permission first, and I apologize to you, Marcus, for that lapse of judgement), because I thought you would be happy to get the business. Again, I'm sorry I didn't seek your blessing first.

I just want you to know that 1) I didn't lie to you or misrepresent myself to you in any way and 2) that I posted your contact info with the thinking that selling capsules was perfectly normal business for you. Had I known otherwise, I would definitely not have told people about the capsules. I hope this is understandable (seriously, if I had done as you alledge, don't you think I would then have given everyone a 'heads-up' that you only sell for replacement purposes so they could make up a story for you?).

Further I wish to remind you that I only purchase ONE capsule from you (check your records). You may, in fact, have sold a pair to someone else, and they may have lied to you about why they wanted them, but please do not publicly accuse me of this. I'm not the guy you're thinking of.

Peace to you all,

JC

(Joel Cameron, Plano, TX -- so you can check your records, Marcus)
