Hey Guys i'm tryig to see if this transformer would work fine in a 1272 as a mic input?

Yeah i know Carnhill makes them but its almost 1 week of my work to have them!

Thanks.

Yes its a 6K i think but i know that few transformers would work in this aplication but my question was missformulated...i mean how good its against the Carnhill! or how good will it perform in the circuitry compared to the Carnhill..?

Jorge.

I think it would be a good idea to figure out what Transformers will work as substitutes in some of the Neve style boxes. Certain devices I want neve only, others I'm willing to try something else and see if I like it or not.

For one it would be nice to know what would work in a 1073/84 style EQ since there is some PCB's floating around here from that.

The same setup would have the Ez1290 taken care of..

i emailed with david from cinemag about using the cmmi-2c in the neve 1290 circuit (nearly like the 1272 but with an extra stage.)

david said he had customers use it in a neve type circuit with good results.

Cinemag will make their CMOQ-1 with a gapped, steel lamination stack for those who want to use it in a class-A Neve output. They're wonderful -- a bit cleaner sounding than the Carnhill stuff. Also, they lack 4dB output compared to the Carnhills since they are 1:1 and not 1:1.7.

I'm not sure how they would perform in parallel:series connection for a 6dB bump -- I'm not sure I would try it, at least not without a giant heatsink for the 3055.

If you're using them for a 3-stage preamp, however, you've got way more than enough gain, so the 4dB loss for a properly-connected Cinemag is irrelevant. It might be an issue in a 1272, however.

Wow! so it could work most than nice in a 1290!!!

In another note: i was checking out at Audio maintenance when i found out that prices are in Pounds way more expensive than Euros!
Total would be for 2 Carnhill ins, 2 Outs and 2 Grayhill switches to be 335$ canadians! gees more than a half of a week salary!

No way! Sowter comes for about the same amount!

I, too, was looking for an alternate input, but I always planned on using the Carnhill out since it's only 17 GBP at AM. The input is the expensive one..

Does anyone have an idea of the Cinemag prices?

3nity, if you do this, please post your results.

I'll do! i'll go with Cinemag this time cuz simply i cant wait more time with 4-5 projects in the go, my studio its down!

I dont thing i'll ever go with Carnhill i'll try the Inputs with JLM maybe.

Altough the JLM looks a lot like the output used in the China Neve clones!

I ordered my transformers.....it cost me way less than Carnhills and still i took an aditional output...still cheaper....

BTW: Altran has this as an alternative: ALTRAN C-4000...i think its 20$ each....

Next step is to order some Dual 10K pots, what you think? i'm using Grayhills? well yes....but i'm experimenting with a pot before.

Thanks.

I'm interested to know Cinemag's pricing for these.. Good to know about Altran..

what boards are you using?

Total i paid 192$ excluding shipping.

So i'm pretty confident that a group buy will be well received...

I already talked to Jim (bluzzi) and once i;m done we'll be doing an AB comparison, he;s using the expensive Carnhill in his!

+

I'm using a Dual 10K pot in the 1290 so i'll left aside the expensive Grayhill too.

Thanks guys.

3nity,

I'm sorry if I missed something, but you say you're using a dual 10k pot in a 1290 instead of a Grayhill (switch?)?????

Where/how?

What schematic are you using?

Very curious (and a little confused) :?
