Thanks for the explanations. My understanding has been that if there is any info higher than 0dBFS that the editor can apply compression or ignore it. If peaks are ignored there is digital clipping that sounds terrible, even on short peaks. Of course the final product's sound might vary from CD player to CD player. Most I have seen will ignore short clip intervals that I hear plainly on my DAW, but I understand that some players will drop out under this condition.
