Experienced a little drama yesterday while assembling drum tuners (yes I do work sometimes).

While doing final check out I heard some extra unexpected distortion from one speaker, like perhaps my PS voltage was low, but I had just inserted 4 brand new batteries.

If you look at the image, the shiny spot at roughly 2 o'clock is where the battery holder spring contact pierced the plastic insulating wrap.

Apparently the outer metal casing of the battery is positive wrt the floating negative electrode.

It was getting pretty hot before I pulled it...  could have made a mess.

One of the funnier things I've seen in my life is when I was working in an electronics shop many years ago. A customer walked in then suddenly started dancing about the place like a maniac. After nearly a minute he managed to extract a 9v battery from his pocket and flung it across the room. It had shorted out on his keys.
