I have a 165a and the meter will not work sometimes when first use of the day, but switching the meter source a couple times brings it back.

Maybe clean the meter switch assembly ?

I'd buy your 160VU with a dead meter for a reasonable price.

I also have a Jim Williams modified 161vu balanced out recapped new IC's etc. Sounds great but has some cosmetic issues. this was racked with the 160vu

The 161 has a broken/missing power switch and one broken meter switch / which I was planing to repair. It is also missing two switch caps. It's rough around the edges but sounds great. My plan now is to put the 161vu working meter into the 160vu and sell that on reverb in a new chassis. PM me if interested still.
