What you went through sounds oddly familiar. Don't forget to flush and exercise switches and pots. I remember chasing down all kinds of problems, but really only ever had a voltage regulator blow once that I was reasonably sure was bad. Otherwise just retouching solder joints, especially around the VCA sub assemblies, fixed most of the 160's that crossed my bench.

Sorry to piggyback on a thread, but I seem to be in the right place ;)

DBX 162 was working great until recently - but now threshold, compression, and output gain don't seem to have any effect on the signal.

"Below" and "above" LEDs aren't lighting up at all.

Unit still passes audio in both bypass and non bypass.

Any ideas where to start poking around?

The obvious suspects are VCA

Does non-bypass signal sound different than bypass? Does it offer any audible clues?
