DBX 166 mods?

well, what don't you like about them? I think it's best to figure out what you want to change before you start modding just to mod. (I've been guilty of this before) :grin:
 
Yep, I've done a few (not the XL, just the old 166's).

Recap them, install 2180's, and put in IC sockets. A/B op amps between the two channels until you find something you like. I use mine for toms mostly. I think they sound pretty good.

The 2180 is something of a drop in. You have to remove a couple of resistors (Trim circuit I believe. Look at the schematic and compare to the scematic on the THAT website), and the existing vca. I used milmax breakaway sockets, soldered them in and then put in the 2180's.
