Hello, hello!

My Sennheiser MD21 died last week for whatever reason. There was no violence involved. Well it was in front of a guitar-amp, so at least there was quite some violence ;).
But now, does anyone here know how to open the front-part of this mic? There are litte bolts on the left an right side but I have no clue what kind of treatment these are asking for. Do I have to drill them out? I hope, not.
The plug-side is o.k. as far as I could see it.

Thanks

Chris

under the stand clip, there's a little serial number tab. One end has a slight protrusion which may be bent up to keep it in place.

Bend it straight and let it slip out. Underneath is a screw which holds the end in place. Remove this and the "M....V" switch should slip out. -Looking inside you may see some silicone or whatever. Pull it off if you can. Inside there is a nut. Remove the nut. The sleeve should now slide off, and allow oyu to remove the two mesh screens.

This is from memory... If you can, PLEASE take pictures as you go and you can post them and correct any bits I forget, for the benefit of all others who follow in your footsteps.

Hi!

I think Chris means the MD21 according to his description of the front.  ;)

These two "little bolts" are no screws but small pins, just 3-4 mm long.

Press the pins inwards VERY CAREFULLY (as they easily break trough the plastic inside)
and at the same time slide the front part off the body.

Hope this helps...

Regards,

Anders

Oops...

I skimmed it and looked at Pucho's link... Since Pucho took a 'wrong turn' I was following him down the wrong path.

Oh well, anyone in future searching for how to disassemble an MD421 may still find the instructions useful...

Good luck with the MD21.

Keith who is more foolish, the fool or the man who follows the fool? ;D

Sorry for the wrong turn, my lesdyxia kicked in on that one.

Aahh... You're lucky that I'm in a generous mood at the moment, young padawan!

-Else I should smite thee such a blow as would rattle the very bollocks from a mighty elephant!  ;D

that eBay auction is a bit pricey, I found my last three MD21 for under €50 each... you'll need to go through a couple if you are looking for a stereo pair, they all sound different.

The MD21 was also built by labor, maybe you can score a cheapo by looking for one of those...

Keith, thanks for posting the MD421 take apart - I have a real early 421 with sennheiser script logo that has no low end. The techs at Sennheiser say this is the only model they can't repair (the capsule seems to have different dimensions), so photo-take apart coming soon  ;D

Sennheiser was called Labor 'till 1958 or so. Before they started making mics, they built measurement equipment and lab gear.
