Hi Guys,

On Muffs, one the members tried the alu dibond (direct print) for a Buchla front panel, and the results was very OK.

whitewall.com

My questions is that anyone tried it for 19" gear?

Hi ..I have engraved panels with dibond..it is very nice..but I don't think it  would support anything heavy in a 19" rack...at least not the 3mm thick dibond. Would be ok if the rack was supported by separate metal  ears so all the load taken off the front panel.

What about plug in modules like 500 series - would it be good for front panels?

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian..yes would think so.. It machines well  (drilling and routing ) and  the stuff I tried had a satin  finish on one side and high gloss on the other.
The surface is painted  not anodised. The coating is very  hard and  scratch proof you can do quite detailed engraving on it (I have a cnc machine ) . In a 500 rack you could also hide the edges of the dibond panel  ..so  the panel would  appear like it was made from solid aluminium.  It is very strong  for smaller panel sizes..no flexture at all..  :0) .  I

Its good stuff .. I was planning on  making  a panel with it at some point..

Attached  is a quick test engraving I did on a couple of scrap pieces of  ivory dibond. a while back... 30mmx30mm pieces.
